Chelsea Akyeampong

Director of Global Programs

Chelsea Akyeampong is a dedicated humanitarian professional with a passion for supporting and empowering vulnerable and marginalized people in their communities in both America and in international contexts. Chelsea developed her passion for working with vulnerable populations as a scholar of international development and a practitioner working with refugee children for a local humanitarian organization in Cameroon. Her passion and experience in Cameroon translated well to her role as a child welfare case manager for Saint Francis Ministries in Nebraska where she worked directly with abused and neglected children and their parents/caregivers in the hopes of reunifying them. Chelsea holds a Master of Arts degree from American University’s School of International Service (SIS) where she completed the Ethics, Peace, and Human Rights program to further put people and communities at the center of humanitarian and development programming. As a Program Associate at USAID Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, Chelsea continued her passion for people and communities through administrative support for humanitarian programming initiatives that strengthened the capacity for frontline community workers who performed the same duties when she was a caseworker. Her ability to blend her previous community engagement experiences with her professional experiences has resulted in a service-oriented mission of dedicating her life to focusing on the programmatic impacts that keep families healthy, financially secure, nutritionally educated, and spiritually nourished.
